960 Metal Clay is .960 or 96% pure silver while traditional sterling is .925 or 92.5% pure silver. 960 is sterling silver and can be legally marked as such. A major advantage of 960 metal clay is that it does not have to be fired in carbon like traditional sterling silver clay and it is considerably stronger and more affordable than fine silver clays.

Mixing
Take equal parts fine silver clay (Art Clay, PMC3, PMC+ or PMC Flex) and kneed for about five minutes, or until uniform in color. It is important to have equal parts of each clay (note PMC is marked with metal weight and clay weight on their packets so pay close attention). Once mixed, cover in plastic wrap, place in an airtight container and let rest for 30 minutes prior to use.

Firing
Fire on an open shelf at 1500º for one hour.
